Dr. Gurdev Singh Khush (born 1935) is a distinguished Indian-American plant breeder and geneticist, widely recognized as one of the “Fathers of the Green Revolution” in rice. During his tenure at the International Rice Research Institute from 1967 to 2002, he developed more than 300 improved rice varieties, including the landmark IR36, significantly strengthening global food security for over a billion people. His groundbreaking contributions earned him the prestigious World Food Prize in 1996.
