The Universal Poems – World Peace: Homage To Mahatma Gandhi by Gobinda Biswas

In the book of poems ‘The Universal Poems’ by poet Gobinda Biswas there are 90 original poems. There are personal love, social love and world love. In the poem ‘Europa and the White Bull’ the poet draws the mental agony of Europa, the unmarried princess of Tyre in Phoenicia. Dido, the princess of Carthage wails for the unfulfilled love-affair with Trojan prince Aeneas in ‘Aneas,I am Your Dido Still’. In the poem ‘I am Mary Magdalene’ the poet paints not with colours but with words the transformation of a very simple woman beside the Sea of Galilee into Saint Mary Magdalene with the mercy of Lord Christ.

The poet very carefully portrays the sketch of the little girl in ‘Phan Thi Kim Phuc :The Girl in the Picture’, who was severely burnt by the aerial bombings in the Vietnam War in 1972 and how she survived. In ‘Poetry of the Poor Street Children’ the poet illustrates the pangs and sufferings of the street children. In ‘Mandela, the Prometheus he depicts the true story of a modern Prometheus who tolerated the tortures of the foreign rulers for his innocent countrymen. He paints ‘the pity of war, the pity war distilled’ in ‘The Army Train on its Last Journey’ where it shows the wails and lamentations of near and dear ones when the train with soldiers started for battle-field. In ‘The Christ of Aleppo’ he draws the pangs of civil war and foreign invasion.

Gobinda Biswas is an Indian poet who till September2025 has composed 680 original poems in English from March, 2013. He has seven published books to his credit. The Sunny Poems (86 poems) and The Universal Poems (90 poems) were published in Kolkata, India in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The Eternal Poems (110 poems) and The Global Poems (114 poems) were published in New Delhi, India in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The Immortal Poems (100 poems) was published in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2023. His 6th book of English poems The Lyrical Poems with 60 poems was published in Jashpur Nagar,Chhattishgarh,India also in 2023. His second book of English poems The Universal Poems was re-published also by the Literatures Light Publishing House in Jashpur Nagar,Chhattishgarh,India in October, 2025.His eighth book of English poems will be published soon with 60 poems.
