Description

In 1952, a black envelope arrives at the Vatican carrying a message from a nun who has been dead for seventy-three years.

“We have locked Sister Agnes underground. Please don’t send anyone to save her. If the bell rings twelve times, it will be too late.”

The warning sends Father Adrian Voss and Father Elias to a remote monastery hidden deep in the French mountains.

They expect to find a dead woman.

Instead, they find Sister Marie.

And a monastery that should have been empty.

At first, the strange occurrences seem like fragments of an old secret—bells ringing without anyone to strike them, unexplained sounds in the darkness, and a presence that seems to know far more about Adrian than it should.

Then Adrian discovers a photograph.

Twelve nuns.

One of them may be waiting for him.

As the priests search deeper into the monastery, old records begin to reveal a mystery that has survived for generations. Names disappear. Memories return. And beneath the ancient stone, something seems to be listening.

The closer Adrian comes to the truth, the more he begins to wonder whether he was brought to the monastery by chance—or whether the monastery has been waiting for him all along.
The bells are counting.

And they have already begun.
