Description

About the book

Humanity is entering a profound transformation — the era of Super Ageing. Populations across continents are living longer, yet societies struggle to adapt. The question is no longer whether ageing will reshape our world, but whether we will rise to meet it with dignity and compassion. Dr David Soh Poh Huat offers more than analysis. He offers a vision. His words remind us that ageing is not a burden to be managed, but a triumph to be honored.

He challenges governments, communities, and individuals to confront uncomfortable truths: solitary deaths, commercialized eldercare, and the erosion of human connection.

This book bridges policy and poetry, statistics and stories. It insists that carers deserve recognition as professionals, that standards must be established, and that compassion must be restored to the center of eldercare. Ageing is not decline — it is our collective triumph.

About the Author

Dr David Soh Poh Huat, DLitt, is an internationally recognized Singaporean author whose work bridges literature and social advocacy. His journey as a freelance community caregiver shaped his conviction that eldercare is not merely service, but a profession rooted in dignity and compassion. His acclaimed works — Being a Caregiver: Is it a Profession?, Caregiving: The Gift of Unconditional Love, and Nature’s Gifts of the Soursop Leaves — have earned international honors for their blend of policy insight and poetic humanity.

In 2025, Dr Soh became a pioneer in implementing Professional Indemnity Insurance for freelance carers, securing legal and professional protection for individuals who had long been overlooked. This landmark reform elevated carers to stand alongside doctors, nurses, and teachers, affirming their rightful place as professionals of international standing.

Awarded the Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in 2022, Dr Soh continues to champion the voices of elders and carers worldwide.

His writing reminds us that ageing is not decline, but triumph.

He expresses deep gratitude to his wife, Catherine Tan, whose steadfast love sustains his work, and to the global literary community that shares his vision of a world where compassion is the true measure of progress.
