In conversation with Dr. Kripa Mariam Babu (P.T.)
What inspired you to write “Kallipaideia: The Ocean Within,” and how does it reflect your personal and professional journey?
I was inspired to write “Kallipaideia: The Ocean Within” by the multifaceted roles and inner strength of women I’ve encountered as a counselor and entrepreneur. This book reflects my journey of empowering women to embrace their unique beauty and navigate their inner depths to lead fulfilling lives.
The title of your book is quite intriguing. Can you explain the meaning of “Kallipaideia” and how it relates to the themes explored in the book?
“Kallipaideia” combines the Greek words “kallos,” meaning beauty, and “paideia,” meaning education or upbringing, thus translating to “beautiful education.” This title reflects the book’s themes of empowering women to embrace their inner and outer beauty through self-discovery, self-care, and personal growth, much like navigating the depths of an ocean to uncover hidden treasures.
The book includes personal stories, especially about your mother. How did her experiences influence your perspective on resilience and strength in womanhood?
My mother’s experiences deeply influenced my perspective on resilience and strength in womanhood. Her unwavering determination and grace in facing life’s challenges taught me the profound power of inner strength, which I aim to share with readers through personal stories and practical guidance in the book.
In “Kallipaideia: The Ocean Within,” you explore the diverse roles of women in society. What key messages do you hope readers take away about these roles and the strength of women?
In “Kallipaideia: The Ocean Within,” I hope readers recognize the incredible strength and resilience women demonstrate in their diverse roles. The key message is that women, much like the ocean, possess profound depths of wisdom, courage, and beauty, which empower them to navigate and thrive in every aspect of their lives.
As a successful medical professional and author, how do you manage to balance your demanding career with your personal life, and what advice do you offer to women striving for this balance?
Balancing my demanding career with my personal life involves prioritizing self-care, setting boundaries, and staying organized. My advice to women is to embrace flexibility, seek support when needed, and dedicate time to activities that nourish their mind, body, and soul, ensuring they find harmony between their professional and personal commitments.
Your book emphasizes the importance of self-care. Can you share some practical self-care strategies that have been particularly effective for you and the women you’ve worked with?
Some practical self-care strategies that have proven effective include establishing a consistent daily routine, engaging in mindfulness practices like meditation or journaling, and prioritizing physical activity and healthy eating. Additionally, setting aside time for personal hobbies and maintaining strong social connections are crucial for overall well-being and resilience.
How has your background and experiences in physiotherapy influenced your writing, especially in addressing health and wellness in your book?
My background in physiotherapy has significantly influenced my writing by providing a deep understanding of physical health and wellness.
