Q1. First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the release of your debut book “Choose Your Destiny: Your One Life”. How do you feel about it?  Tell us something about the book?

Sheetu Kaushal: Writing book felt like I’ve achieved something in my life. Writing my first book was a whole new experience. When I was writing my book, “Choose Your Destiny: Your One Life, I felt I was living the life of characters in my book. It taught me many things. Though it took me hell of a hard work and patience. It took me months to complete my book. I had to manage my time and at times, I thought of giving up. But I kept going and finally, I completed it. This book delves into the significance of decision-making in shaping one’s life and advocates for taking charge of one’s own fate.

Q2. What inspired you to transition from academic writing to fiction with “Choose Your Destiny: Your One Life”?

Sheetu Kaushal: The shift from academic writing to fiction writing stemmed from a desire to explore creative expression, storytelling, and emotional depth beyond the confines of scholarly discourse. While academic writing honed my research and analytical skills, fiction offered a canvas to engage readers on a personal and imaginative level. Inspired by the possibility of crafting narratives that resonate emotionally and intellectually, I embraced fiction writing as a means to connect with a broader audience and evoke diverse perspectives and emotions. The transition allowed me to channel my passion for storytelling into narratives that transcend boundaries and speak to the human experience in all its intricacies and complexities.

Q3. The protagonist Maya undergoes a journey of self-discovery and empowerment in your novel. How did you approach developing her character arc?

Sheetu Kaushal: Developing a character arc involves careful planning, outlining the character’s growth, challenges, and transformation throughout the story. This typically includes defining the character’s goals, motivations, strengths, weaknesses, and how they evolve over time. It also involves considering how external events and interactions with other characters impact the protagonist’s development. In the case of Maya, her journey of self-discovery and empowerment would likely involve exploring her inner conflicts, overcoming obstacles, and ultimately finding her true identity and strength.

Q4. Friendship plays a significant role in Maya’s decision-making process. How do you perceive the importance of friendships in navigating complex relationships, as depicted in your book?

Sheetu Kaushal: Friendship indeed plays a crucial role in the decision-making process. In navigating complex relationships, friendships provide emotional support, diverse perspectives, and a sense of trust and loyalty. Friends serve as confidants, offering valuable insights and encouragement that can help individuals make thoughtful and well-informed choices. The importance of friendships lies in their ability to provide comfort, guidance, and a sense of community in navigating the complexities of relationships.

Q5. What books or authors have most influenced your own writing? Who is the author you most admire?

Sheetu Kaushal: The world of literature is vast and diverse, with numerous authors and books that have left a lasting impact on writing styles and techniques. Some of the most influential authors like Chetan Bhagat, Ernest Hemingway, Harper Lee. In terms of the author most admired for writing, it is subjective and varies from person to person.

Q6. As a debut novelist, what challenges did you face during the writing process, and how did you overcome them?

Sheetu Kaushal: As a debut novelist, I encountered challenges such as self-doubt, crafting a compelling narrative, navigating the publishing industry, and managing time effectively. To overcome these obstacles, I cultivated a resilient mindset, embraced feedback, conducted thorough research, persevered through rejections, and established a structured routine. By learning from setbacks, staying dedicated, and seeking continuous improvement, I surmounted challenges and embarked on a rewarding journey as a writer.
